Does space trash affect the International Space Station?

When a piece of orbital debris gets too close, the Station has to be moved. In 2015, it made 3 collision avoidance maneuvers and astronauts had to shelter in the Soyuz (escape vehicles) once because it could not move in time. The International Space Station is the largest manmade object in space and is being used for important scientific research. It has special shielding called Whipple Shields to protect it from small debris. It is the most expensive object ever built costing 100 billion dollars so it is important to keep it safe!
