Proposed SOlutions
LASER
Yep, that's right- a laser. While it may seem a little far-fetched, it's actually extremely logical. This laser would be huge, and when it would shoot the debris its rays would slow its orbit, eventually letting gravity pull it into our atmosphere to go down in flames. There's only two problems- one being money. Other than that obvious problem- what if some of the debris didn't burn up entirely and caused problems down on Earth? This is no cat's toy- were talking big boy toys. Let me show you how this works with a diagram.
Pew! Pew! Oops, wrong target.... here comes a satellite...
PACMAN
No joke- this solution would be like a giant pacman in the sky! Its control base would be back on Earth, and it would actually "eat" the trash up and dispose of it by dropping it into the atmosphere. Wouldn't be fun to lose on this level of Pacman though... hmm..
GAME OVER. Well that went well...
NET
This one is probably the easiest to rap your head around. It's a giant net, which would wrap around the debris, slowing down more and more to eventually fall into the atmosphere. It seems like a lot of these solutions choose that method...
CLAW
This is a step up from those rip-off claw machines. This is a giant, maneuverable claw used to retrieve heaps of floating trash from the sky.
WALL-E
There's not much better than a little WALL-E zooming around space. This robot would clean up the orbital debris, much like WALL-E. I myself would like one of my own- a robot to clean my room for me. Amazing!
